Some still prefer to pay with cash, while others can hardly wait for everything to be as automated and digital as possible. One thing’s for sure: Paying with your smartphone is more popular than ever – both with customers and with merchants.

In addition to contactless credit and debit cards, consumers in Switzerland can now also make mobile payments. Using either their smartphone, tablet or watch, this is possible with TWINT, Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, Alipay and Bellamy (the payment-enabled watch from Swatch), etc. No matter what your preferred mobile payment solution looks like, SIX has already integrated the corresponding technology into its new payment terminals.

Two technologies have come out on top for mobile payments. On the one hand, there’s near field communication (NFC) which is primarily used for contactless debit and credit card payments. On the other hand, there’s the QR code. This is also used by TWINT, the Swiss standard for mobile payments and other international mobile payment methods.
